Acharapakkam is a panchayat town in Kancheepuram region in the Indian territory of Tamil Nadu. It is acclaimed for its antiquated Shiva sanctuary, to be specific Aksheeswaraswamy Temple which is one of the Devaram sanctuaries. Acharapakkam town is around 96 km south-west from Chennai city, which is presently included with the Chennai Metropolitan Area limits. Atcheeswarar sanctuary is devoted to Lord Shiva situated close Acharapakkam, Tamil Nadu, and India. The sanctuary is commended in the psalms of Saint Tirugnanasambandar. This is the 29th sanctuary in Thondai locale adulated in Thevaram psalms. This sanctuary is around 1000-2000 years of age. It is trusted that Arulmigu Aatcheeswarar Temple is related with the legend of Tripurasamhaaram (identified with that at Tiruvatikai Veerattaanam). Legends express that when Lord Shiva was venturing out in his chariot to devastate the Tripurams, the pivot of the chariot broke in this town into two pieces.
